Insomnia affects millions of Americans of all ages.  It goes without saying that a good night’s sleep is important for more than just how your brain functions - newer studies show a strong link between poor sleep and elevated risk of diabetes, weight gain/obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease and accidents, just to name a few!

Also, If you’re not sleeping well, you’re not recovering properly.  While rest allows the muscles to recover after training, sleep is important for the nervous system (which controls everything!) to recover after hard training bouts.  If you're going to train and recover well, you've got to dial in your sleep!

Here’s How Sleep Easy Works:

sleep-easy-formula 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid which is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin. 5-HTP elevates serotonin levels which in turn supports positive mood and sleep.  Serotonin is involved in brain and hormone activities responsible for sleep/wake cycles and emotions.

L-Theanine is derived primarily from green tea leaves and is well known for it’s ability to promote relaxation.  It can enter the brain (crossing the blood-brain barrier) and boosts relaxing alpha-wave production there.  Theanine is thought to be responsible for the relaxing effects of having a cup of tea as well!

Gamma-Aminobutyric acid (GABA) is the brains main inhibitory neurotransmitter, meaning it “puts the brakes on” excess brain activity. GABA has anxiety reducing, sedative and even anti-convulsant effects.  GABA exerts is anti-anxiety effects by interacting with the limbic system which is one of the brain’s areas of emotion processing.

Beta-phenyl-gamma-aminobutyric Acid) Phenibut is a derivative of GABA. It helps release the body’s own GABA, amplifies its effects and assists its entrance into the brain. Phenibut has stress and anxiety decreasing effects, and improves poor sleep in studies.

Melatonin is our main sleep/wake hormone that is produced in the pineal gland, inside our brains. It’s secreted in response to dark (activated) and light (depressed).  Taking melatonin can bring on sleep, shorten the time to fall asleep, and decreases the number of nighttime awakenings and improves overall sleep quality.  At 1 milligram in this formula, it’s just enough to help with sleep but not enough to make you feel groggy in the morning.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) helps with the production of serotonin, one of our important sleep hormones.

Magnesium is used in many systems throughout the body and can be quite helpful in winding down at night and bringing sleep on.

Hops (flower) Hops has been used traditionally for insomnia; in studies it has been shown to help with restlessness, anxiety, and insomnia.

Skullcap is a botanical medicine which contains ingredients that act to stimulate GABA brining about it’s sedative and anti-anxiety effects. It can also bind serotonin receptors, thereby enhancing the effects of serotonin in the brain.

Passionflower has been used traditionally for its sedative, anxiety-reducing, anti-spasm and sedative effects.

Valerian Root (Valeriana Sitchensis) also has sedative, anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing), anti-depressant and anti-spasmodic effects. It also works by inhibiting the breakdown of GABA in the brain, so more is left around, increasing its effects. This is a different species of valerian; valerian officianalis can cause opposite reactions in about 10-15% of those who use it.  This species (sitchensis) promotes sleep-inducing effects without the adverse reactions of the officials species.

Jujube and Yuan Zhi are Chinese herbal medicines that help ensure more restful and unbroken sleep. They work synergistically with each other to shorten the time to fall asleep and enhance delta brain wave activity that’s a sign of deeper sleep.
