Buyer Beware - Big Box Chains Sell Adulterated Herbals

The discovery of adulterated herbal supplements in New York made big news this week.

After an investigation by the New York Attorney General’s office, 78 different products taken from big-box retailers - GNC, Target, Wal-Mart and Walgreens –were found to not only contain little to none of the label ingredients, but were also adulterated with fillers like houseplants, beans, wheat, rice, asparagus and other unidentified plant material.

Of course this poses some big problems. Firstly, customers are being duped and potentially put in danger when they think they’re consuming an herbal medicine, when in reality, they’re not.

Secondly, the inclusion of non-labeled food ingredients like wheat, beans, and others can be especially dangerous for a person with allergies to these ingredients that unknowingly ingests them.

And while the nutritional supplement industry isn’t as tightly regulated as the pharmaceutical industry, not all nutritional manufacturers are guilty of adulteration like those sold in chain stores like Wal-Mart, GNC, Walgreens and Target.

The suppliers whose products that we provide on NaturalAthleteClinic.com are amongst the most conscientious manufacturers of natural medicines. This is why we only carry a select few manufacturers' products on our site – we only want the best.  Secondly, this is part of why we exist – to provide you, our customers with quality natural medicine resources.

This matter reconfirms the importance of testing for and confirming the identity of botanical ingredients by dietary supplement manufacturers as part of their adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) regulations required by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

We at the Natural Athlete's Clinic want to assure you of the integrity of the products that we distribute.  Here are just a few of the steps our manufacturers take to ensure quality, pure products:

-Raw materials are sourced from suppliers who meet strict requirements.

-Finished products meet or exceed the standards set forth by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

-Products are tested for heavy metals, microbiological contaminants, and other reasonable environment contaminants.

-The identity, potency and purity of each ingredient on product labels are verified before and after production, and again prior to being released to distributors.

At the Natural Athlete's Clinic, we take pride in providing the select few products we offer from excellent suppliers who provide us with pure, hypoallergenic natural medicines.

You can be confident that when you purchase from us, you’re getting the very best of the best.  And, if you ever do have questions about our products, please send us an email at info@naturalathleteclinic.com - we’re happy to help you make informed, healthy choices for you and your loved ones.
